Keiga worked as an illustrator for Dutch visitors to Nagasaki. His artistic style was strongly influenced by the realistic, European style of drawing and in 1836 he published a four volume picture album entitled SÅmoku Kajitsu Shashin Zufu (Illustrated Album of Plants, Trees, Flowers and Fruits Drawn from Life). The 68 pictures of plants included in the album are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Many of the plant names used by Keiga have been updated by plant scientists and these updated names are given below the pictures.
